The Migration to Suburbs:
After world war 2 there was a large population growth, so there
was a need for more houses to be built. Living in suburbs helped form the “American Dream”. Some of the new forms of transportation such as trains and
steamboats made commuting to places that were farther away more convenient.
A high amount of births lead to a bigger family and the more people
that a family has the more space they need to grow. Cities began to feel cramped so people looked for places to live with more space to raise a family. When the homes were built they were affordable, simple, and unpretentious. Young couples liked the idea of being able to be on their own and away from their parents.

White people generally lived near other white people. Some times white and black people wouldn’t like it if the other moved into there communities. Racsism was alive and well in the suburbs durring the 1950s. Most of the houses were built the same way. Each house had two bedrooms one bathroom and no basement and the kitchen was near the back of the house. When a lot of people moved into an
area restaurants and buildings like post offices, office buildings, car dealorships and parks started to pop up in that same area.

It was very common for young wifves and her friends to be pregnant at the same time; it was also common for young wifes to be stay at home mothers. Being a stay at home mother included keeping an eye on the childern, cleaning, and making sure that a meal was on the table when your husband came home from work in the evenings. Some people found the American dream was something that would never be attend but was always although some women did work. Elvis Presley becomes one of the era’s greatest rockers. His music was something that kids and teen of this generation loved but the parents hated it. Elvis’ music was a combination of country western with some rhythms and blues. Elvis was drafted into the army from 1958-60. His music lead the way for other artists like Buddy Holly and so many others including some African Americans like Nat Cole King, and Chuck Berry. And still today Elvis inspiressomes of the artists in music. Elvis opened a door for many of the artists that followed him and his movement.
